A statewide challenge with a local solution.
An effort to improve safety, truck parking, and travel along Interstate 90 by redeveloping North Bend’s Exit 34 with a modern truck travel center.

North Bend’s “Truck Town” at Exit 34 serves as a major short- and long-haul truck service center and rest stop along the Interstate 90 corridor.
The truck stop is a vital location in the Puget Sound region, allowing truckers to rest and serve the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma as well as the Kent Valley manufacturing center.
The current truck stop is significantly undersized and unable to accommodate current and future truck parking needs, causing local and regional impacts.
A modern truck parking and service facility that supports Washington’s growing economy, improves freight flow, and makes the corridor safer for drivers and the community.
Through partnerships and future infrastructure investments, Cascade Gateway aims to strengthen North Bend’s economy while building a safer and more connected future for the region.
Truck parking and public safety are statewide issues. An expanded truck parking facility with up to 325 stalls and a new Washington State Patrol office would improve safety for truckers and travelers.
A statewide truck parking solution along Interstate 90 would improve this key transportation corridor, support Washington’s economy, and create new opportunities for North Bend and the region.
Electric-truck plug-ins let drivers power heating, refrigeration, and other onboard systems without idling, helping reduce diesel emissions, improve air quality, lower fuel use, and decrease noise along the I-90 corridor.
The City of North Bend is proposing to expand the Urban Growth Area of King County to include parcels totaling 135 acres for a truck travel center.
The project would balance infrastructure improvements with responsible land stewardship while addressing truck parking, public safety, and transportation needs along the I-90 corridor. As the project moves forward, environmental considerations will remain an important part of the planning process.

A WSDOT feasibility study is underway to inform state policy and investment decisions.
